NBHA FL07 Newsletter   March '06

Happy Spring Everyone!

Isn’t this weather we’ve been having just wonderful?  I’ll bet all of you are covered in horse hair from all the shedding that’s going on now, huh?!  I guess this is my favorite time of the year…with everything greening up and flowers starting to bloom, makes you appreciate God’s blessings!

Appropriate Attire
Now that the warmer weather is here, I’ll remind you of NBHA’s rules on what you can wear at the shows.  Please remember, you can NOT wear tank tops with shoulder straps less than 2” wide!  Also crop tops are a no-no too, as halter tops, tube tops, ect.  PLEASE remember this, as I WILL disqualify your run if you are not dressed appropriately.  Also I assume you know you have to wear long pants/jeans and boots or approved riding shoes.

Website
I hope everyone knows by now, we do have a website!!  On it you will find our newsletters, points, show results, schedule and breaking information you need to know.  Also there is a poll where you can vote on the current question (on it now is “Should we have awards in 2006”) and a forum where you can post opinions, complaints, comments to me or on other topics.  I just checked it and we’ve had a whopping 288 people to visit it and I’m sure about half of those are me!  PLEASE go to and use this website!!  I think everyone that uses it will agree it’s easy to navigate and find useful information on it!  And, if you know of any businesses that might like to sponsor a link or ad on there, please let me know! As you also may know, I am not mailing out any more newsletters to those people that I have email addresses to.  I will be emailing newsletters from now on to save on postage, so you’d better check your emails or go to the website for your newsletters and info!  Also, please, at the next show, please put your email address on your entry, so I will have updated ones for you.  Thanks!!

Barrel Workers

Ho hum…here we go again….my semi annual lecture on barrel setting.  I cannot for the life of me figure out WHY no one will help set barrels at the show.  It’s not THAT hard of a job!  Only 30 min of your time at 6 shows is required to receive an award.  Or work 3 hours at one show and get it over with…I don’t care, any way you want to do it…just PLEASE help!!  I have and will continue to stop the show until I have 3 barrel setters in the arena.  This makes for a longer day for all of us.  And what really gets me, is those that usually jump in at the last minute are not even members!!  That’s pitiful!  Remember we do give an award for most hours set at the end of the year, so please, jump on in and help out!!

Upcoming Shows
Remember, our next show is April 1 (no April Fools joke, it really is!), Baker @ 1:00/Exh. 11:00.  Also…DON’T FORGET!!  Our annual Santa Rosa County Fair jackpot is Thursday, April 6.  Exh. Will start @ 5:30 and barrel race starts at 7:00.  You can bring one guest per rider and get into the fair free…so load the family up and run for the $500 added money, sponsored by Coastal Machinery and University Auto Recyclers in Pensacola and also by Jayme Ates-Minchew, Realtor with Southland Properties in Pace, and enjoy all the fun at the fair!  This is one of our biggest money makers for awards for the year, so pass the word!

And speaking of added money, I want to thank again, Trinkette Parker, owner of Permanent Makeup, who generously donated $100 to our show last month in memory of her sister Piper on her birthday, who was a breast cancer victim.  I don’t know if all of you heard Judy announce this at the show.

Well, I guess that’s about it for this newsletter.  Enjoy this beautiful weather before it gets too hot and we’re battling hurricanes (I hope NOT!) and we’ll see you on the 1st and hopefully the 6th at the fair!
